Have you heard about all the amazing powers of tart cherry juice? Tart cherry juice is exactly what it sounds like: it’s the juice of sour Montmorency cherries.
But check this out:
Drinking tart cherry juice is linked with more strength + less muscle soreness post-workout, better sleep, less joint pain, better brain health, and a stronger immune system, among other things. That’s because tart cherry juice is packed with compounds that help your body fight inflammation.
We’ve also included pineapple … because not only is it delicious, but it contains even MORE compounds to help your body recover from exercise (especially the enzyme bromelain).
NOTE: Use unsweetened juice for this recipe to avoid the added sugars in sweetened versions.
Tart Choco-Cherry Superfood Post Workout Shake
(serves 1)
- ¾ cup (180 ml) tart cherry juice
- 1 tsp cacao powder
- Big handful of washed baby spinach
- 1 scoop of chocolate protein powder
- 1 cup (140 g) frozen pineapple
- 1 Tbsp hemp seeds
- ½ cup (115 g) nonfat plain Greek yogurt
Place the tart cherry juice, cacao powder, spinach, and protein powder in a blender and blend until smooth. Add the pineapple, hemp seeds, and yogurt, and blend until it reaches your desired consistency. Pour into a serving glass and drink!
Feel free to customize this recipe to suit your tastebuds or what you have on hand … add chia seeds, your favorite nut butter or avocado … etc. Delicious!
