Maybe you’ve been thinking about trying CrossFit, but you don’t know what to expect.  Maybe you’re not sure you’re ready. Or not sure what it even looks like for someone new to fitness.

In this day and age of the internet and social media, you’ve likely heard some horror stories. Workouts that leave you on your hands and knees, wanting to throw up. Not being able to move the next day, etc. But we promise, walking through those doors will be a decision you won’t regret.  So if you’ve been considering CrossFit and aren’t sure where to start, this post is for you. It will answer some of our most frequently asked questions.

CrossFit class

What does a class look like?

Each class is an hour long and coach led. It will follow a format like this:

Introductions & Warm-up
Coach explains and demos the workout, as well as scaling options.
Strength or skill work
The WOD/Metcon (workout of the day)
Cool down/recovery

Do I have to be “in shape” to start CrossFit?

Absolutely NOT!

Everyone’s fitness journey is going to look different – that’s part of the magic of CrossFit. You might have an experienced athlete walk in or someone who has never touched a barbell in their life.  You’re both going to get an amazing workout.  According to CrossFit HQ, “CrossFit is a lifestyle characterized by safe, effective exercise and sound nutrition. CrossFit can be used to accomplish any goal, from improved health to weight loss to better performance. The program works for everyone—people who are just starting out and people who have trained for years.”

We want you to be successful and SAFE.  That’s why we have onboarding classes for those that are new to CrossFit.  You can get a workout in while learning how to do all the movements safely. We’re not just going to throw you into a class and expect you to know everything. The key to CrossFit workouts is scaling to all of our member’s abilities. Affiliated CrossFit Gyms use trained, certified coaches – all who know how to correctly help athletes scale movements as necessary. Please note that this is one of many differences between a licensed CrossFit gym and those who do “CrossFit” style programming.
